Description
This is an unbelievable 18k solid gold ring that is truly a one of a kind. The super pink gemstone is Pezzottaite which is a rare gemstone that was found in one location in Madagascar some years ago. Most Pezzottaite is moderately to heavily included and not really suitable for faceting. This particular piece is comparatively large at over 3.4 cts and is one of the largest pieces that I’ve seen faceted. It has wonderful pink color that can be described as kind of a light raspberry.
Pezzottaite was originally thought to be in the beryl family with emeralds, Morganite and aqua marine and even though it is the same hardness as these gemstones it has a slightly different crystal structure. It turned out to be a totally different and unique gemstone. I rarely see this material at any of the gem shows as nothing is being mined anymore. I hate to say it but I doubt I will ever be able to make another ring like this again. As always, this piece is completely natural and has not been treated or enhanced in any way.
The design of the ring is based on ancient Etruscan ring designs. The Etruscans pre-dated the Romans in what is now southern Italy. I like this design because it has a lot of intricate granulation especially on the band. This is a medium to heavy weight ring with just a hair under 10.0 grams of 18k gold.
The ring at its widest point is approx. 9/16” wide (at the front – top to bottom) and the band is approx. 3/8” at the back. This is considered a wide-band ring so you might consider sizing based on rings you wear that are comparable.
