Description
This is a beautiful Peruvian blue opal and 18k solid gold pendant. This material was mined more than 30 years ago from a small short-lived find in the Andean foothills. Most of the material that came out of these mines is opaque and at best translucent with inclusions of other minerals making it unusable for high quality fine jewelry. This stone is higher quality with nice blue color and translucence.
The gold work is simple yet elegant with a single row of tiny gold balls around the bezel. I have added a cross bar to the design that is reminiscent of an old sailing ship’s anchor. The bale has some extra detail with a row of gold balls around the circumference. It is a small-to-medium-sized pendant that is approximately 9/16” wide and 1” tall (including the bale). See photos with older silver U.S. dime for size/scale comparison.
