Description
These elegant earrings are made with perfectly matched blue opal from Peru. This material was mined more than 30 years ago from a small short-lived find in the Andean foothills. Most of the material that came out of these mines is opaque and at best translucent with inclusions of other minerals making it unusable for high quality jewelry. These gemstones are the highest quality (facet grade) with Caribbean Ocean blue color making them extremely rare. I have only seen a couple pieces of material like this in all my travels in search of gem materials.
The pair is constructed from solid 18k gold and have an elegant look with neat box settings and elongated ear wires. The settings for the gemstones are approximately 3/8” wide and 5/16″ tall. Total length of each earring (from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the stone setting) is 1 7/8″.
The first four photos of this item were taken in bright sunlight making the opal look pale and a bit washed out. The last two were taken in more subdued light and the opal looks a bit darker and more saturated.
