These beautiful earrings are made with royal purple garnet from a relatively new mine in Mozambique. There are a few other finds of purple garnet in the region including mines in Tanzania but they tend to have a slightly reddish undertone. This perfectly matched pair is some of the highest grade purple from the Tetra Mine in Mozambique (which produced the finest of the purple garnet) with deep purple color (grape) that is not too dark and has no reddish undertone. I would put this material up against some of the nicest purple sapphire for it color and brightness.
To give you a better idea of what these earrings look like I photographed them under different lighting and conditions. The first four photos were taken outside in full bright sunlight. The last photo was taken outside with more subdued light. The sixth photo was taken in my studio under studio lights. The gemstones are clear and bright and free of visible flaws or inclusions.
The pair is constructed from solid 18k gold and have a neat twisted wire design that surrounds the bezel. Each earring is a little over 3/8” in diameter. From the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the setting the earrings are approximately 1 ” long.
