This is a beautiful 18k solid gold ring with a Paraiba blue tourmaline. The design is simple but pretty with a single row of tiny gold balls around the circumference of the band.
The gemstone is from Namibia (the Erongo mine) and is some of the best blue tourmaline I have seen. It’s color is somewhat rare in that there are only a few localities around the world that produce blue tourmaline in this color value. The most famous is the Paraiba region in Brazil but geologists point out that S. America was once attached to Africa millions of years ago and speculate that this might be why we see similar colors from two very distant areas.
Larger clean pieces of this material are extremely rare. Don’t be fooled by imitations or treated (heated) apatite with similar color. This is completely natural and it is the real deal.
The ring at its widest point is just approx 5/16” wide (at the front – top to bottom) and the band is a little over 1/8” wide at the back.
