Description
This is an incredible wide-band 22k solid gold ring. The piece is based on Balinese designs with a lot of intricate granulation around the bezel and precise wire decorative elements on the band. This is a really substantial piece with more than 14.5 grams of 22k gold.
The Australian opal in this piece is huge at 5.8 cts and is cut into a high-domed pillowy cabochon. It displays mainly blue, magenta and violet colors but also some green as well. Unfortunately, the photos do not adequately capture the color and flash in this gemstone.
Opal is particularly hard to photograph as the color it displays is not actually contained in the stone itself but a function of the light that is diffracted as it passes thru the stone. The play of color that we see is a function of structure of the material and will vary depending upon the type of light it is exposed to as well as the angle from which it is viewed.
The ring at its widest point is approx. 9/16” wide (at the front – top to bottom) and the band is approx. 1/4” at the back. This is considered a wide-band ring so you might consider sizing based on rings you wear that are comparable.
